Bishop Museum Invites Public to Its Next Museum After Hours Event and Meet Pioneers in Ocean Exploration and Videography
Bishop Museum invites the public to its next Museum After Hours event on Friday, Sept. 12 from 5-9 p.m., serving as the grand opening of the Explore EXCORE: The Art of Underwater Science exhibition.
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi — Bishop Museum, the State of Hawaiʻi Museum of Natural and Cultural History, invites the public to its next Museum After Hours event and meet two pioneers in ocean exploration and videography.
Held monthly, the next event on Friday, Sept. 12 from 5-9 p.m. will serve as the grand opening of the Explore EXCORE: The Art of Underwater Science exhibition. Guests will be able to attend a presentation by the exhibition's two co-curators Brian Greene and Dr. Richard Pyle, and its designer, DeAnne Kennedy.
Pyle and Greene are considered pioneers in ocean exploration, with Greene also known for his work utilizing cutting-edge underwater camera technology to not only document the astonishing biodiversity of coral reefs, but also capture the beauty of these seascapes and their inhabitants. Greene's videos, utilizing advanced 8K resolution, are featured throughout the exhibition.
"Bishop Museum After Hours is an opportunity for our local community to come and enjoy the Museum in a relaxed pau hana setting, with reduced admission for all," said Taylour Chang, Bishop Museum director of public programs and community engagement. "This month, guests will be able to meet with our researchers exploring the world's oceans and leading expeditions in our ongoing effort to protect our precious biodiversity."
Other highlights of September's Museum After Hours include a "Build Your Own Marine Ecosystem" activity, cultural activities and games, live music, and food and beverage offerings on the Museum's Great Lawn. The $10 pre-sale admission includes access to all programs and activities, as well as the Museum's exhibitions and galleries including the popular Expedition Dinosaur: Into the Deep exhibit.
"We invite local ʻohana and visitors to come and enjoy a night of fun, educational programs and activities, good food, and live music throughout our 15-acre campus," Chang shared.
