What this site is

The Bishop Museum News Room (news.bishopmuseum.org) publishes our official news releases and related media materials. It is operated by Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum (“the Museum,” “we”).

What we collect

You can read everything on this site without an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or any other personal details. We do not run advertising and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking cookies on public pages. Our hosting providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and operations, retained only as long as operationally necessary.

Ask the Archive

When you use Ask the Archive or ask a question from the search bar, the text of your question is sent to our servers and then to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate an answer grounded in our published releases. Please don’t include personal information in a question — it isn’t needed to get an answer. We do not use your questions to build profiles of visitors, and we do not sell or share them for marketing. Answers are generated automatically and are drawn only from the news releases this site publishes.

Cookies

Public pages set no tracking cookies. Museum staff who sign in to the administrative area receive an authentication cookie strictly for keeping them signed in.

Downloads and embeds

Press-kit files and images are served directly from our content storage. Other websites (including bishopmuseum.org) may embed our headlines widget; the widget shows only published headlines and sets no cookies on the embedding page.

Children

This site is a press resource and does not knowingly collect information from children.
