# Bishop Museum Announces New Exhibit, Backyard Adventures
The exhibit's interactive science displays will engage guests with the wonders that can be found in their own backyards, and emphasize the importance — and fun — of outdoor activity and exploration.
Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum announces a new exhibit coming to its Castle Memorial Building in November 2022: Backyard Adventures.
Backyard Adventures, created by Scitech in Perth, Australia and produced by Imagine Exhibitions, creates a dynamic space with interactive science displays that engage guests with the wonders that can be found in their own backyards.
Keiki and ʻohana will be able to discover the outdoors from the perspective of a bee; take a walk through a digital garden to see plants growing in super time; and investigate the creatures that only come out once they're tucked into bed.
As described by Imagine Exhibitions: "The backyard is full of science from the biological interactions between plants and insects, the zoology of nocturnal animals, the horticultural know-how that goes into growing giant vegetables, the mathematical genius needed to lay pavers, and the feats of construction that can go on in the shed."
The exhibit also emphasizes the importance — and fun — of outdoor activity and exploration, with activities such as a giant skipping rope and backyard-themed mini golf.
"Backyard Adventures is a natural complement to our original exhibition, Taxonomy: Our Lives Depend On It," said Brandon Bunag, Bishop Museum vice president of public programs. "While Taxonomy emphasizes the importance of natural sciences, biodiversity, and conservation, as well as Bishop Museum's long and honored history working in these areas, Backyard Adventures encourages citizen science through engaging and playful interactives in a setting familiar to many ʻohana."
"Our hope is that Taxonomy and Backyard Adventures will instill a love of the sciences in many of our guests, and show how they can start their own scientific journeys and research, in their homes and outdoors," added Bunag.
Backyard Adventures opens to the public in Bishop Museum's Castle Memorial Building on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, and runs through Aug. 20, 2023.
