# Bishop Museum Announces Program for Low-Income Families

"Museums for All" to increase accessibility of high-quality museum learning resources

Honolulu, Hawaiʻi — Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum announces that it has joined Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children's Museums (ACM), to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. The program provides those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits visiting Bishop Museum with free regular admission, for up to four people, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Guests will also receive free parking for one vehicle, and are asked to bypass parking payment and check in at the Museum's ticket counter in Shop Pacifica.

Museums for All is part of Bishop Museum's broad commitment to seek, include, and welcome all audiences to its galleries, exhibitions, and programs, as well as access its high-quality learning resources.

"We in the Bishop Museum ʻOhana often express how fortunate we are to work with and care for some of the most amazing historical, cultural, and scientific objects and specimens in the Pacific," said Brandon Bunag, Ed.D., Bishop Museum vice president of public programs and interim director of education. "Our greatest reward comes from being able to share what we've learned and make meaningful connections with our neighbors, our community, and our visitors. Through the Museums for All program, we hope to provide greater access to Bishop Museum to those who may not have been able to visit us previously, or at all. Free regular admission under Museums for All at Bishop Museum starts on *Friday, Nov. 4, 2022.* Bishop Museum also offers $5 reduced pre-sale admission for kamaʻāina and military ʻohana to its Bishop Museum After Hours event, held every second Friday of the month. Museums for All helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities. More than 850 institutions participate in the initiative, including art museums, children's museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums, and more. Participating museums are located nationwide, representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Bishop Museum Admission, Parking, and Hours

Timed General Admissions can be booked for arrivals between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., or for arrivals between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Once a timed admission is booked, guests may arrive at any time during their check-in window. All admissions, once checked in, are welcome to stay until 5 p.m.

J. Watumull Planetarium tickets can be purchased at the Box Office after admission to the Museum; shows are free for Bishop Museum Members, but must be obtained at the Box Office in person on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bishop Museum Café by Highway Inn offers a limited menu of bowls, sandwiches, and snacks from 10 a.m.–3:30 p.m. daily. Bishop Museum Members receive a 10% discount with their membership card.
