In its seventh year at the Museum, the Festival brings together and honors Micronesian voices from across the Pacific.
Bishop Museum, the State of Hawaiʻi Museum of Natural and Cultural History, hosts the Celebrate Micronesia Festival this Saturday, May 3. The event will run from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. throughout the Museum's 15-acre campus, and is held in partnership with the Pacific Islands Development Program at East-West Center, the Center for Pacific Islands Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and leaders from Micronesian communities across Hawaiʻi.
The vibrant festival brings together Micronesian voices from across the Pacific for a day of music, dance, art, food, and storytelling, and honors the rich traditions and contemporary expressions of the Republic of Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guåhan (Guam), Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Kiribati, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
"We're honored to once again host the Celebrate Micronesia Festival for the seventh year, and mahalo our Pacific communities for their partnership and support in holding this important event," said Brandon Bunag, Ed.D., Bishop Museum vice president of public programs and interim director of education. "This year's Festival theme, 'Navigating Forward,' is especially notable during Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and we appreciate the opportunity to come together and uplift the rich and diverse cultures of Micronesia."
Highlights of this year's Festival include traditional weaving, poetry readings, contemporary fashion, cultural performances, food vendors, art displays, hands-on demos, educational booths, and a marketplace featuring local Micronesian artists and makers. The event is $5 for kamaʻāina and military, and free for Bishop Museum Members. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.

Bishop Museum’s mission is to inspire our community and visitors through the exploration, celebration, and perpetuation of the extraordinary history, culture, and environment of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.
