Honolulu, Hawaiʻi — Bishop Museum, the Hawaiʻi State Museum of Natural and Cultural history, presents its 2024 Holiday Guide, inviting local ʻohana and visitors to enjoy the holidays at #HawaiisMuseum.
Public Programs and Special Events
The Kaiwiʻula Night Market will be holding its next event at Bishop Museum on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Skip the malls and get your shopping done under a starry night sky!
For those looking for some musical cheer, enjoy Kanikapila ma Kaiwiʻula on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Museum's Nā Ulu Kaiwiʻula Native Hawaiian Garden. Bring your own ʻukulele or borrow one! Join in to learn some new techniques, share moʻolelo, or just enjoy the music with members of the ʻUkulele Guild of Hawaiʻi.
Trivia lovers! What better way to challenge yourself — and others — than under the star-filled theater of the Museum's J. Watumull Planetarium? The Stars Tonight: Trivia Dome will be held at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20. Register early to reserve your seat!
Daily Programs
Bishop Museum's Daily Programs include English language tours of the Hawaiian Hall Complex at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, as well as Hot Spot Theater shows on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at noon and 2:30 p.m., on the lower level of the volcano in the Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center. Times and availability may vary.
Japanese language tours are available Monday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tours may also be available on weekday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., pending docent availability.
The Museum's J. Watumull Planetarium offers the following daytime shows in December:

Signature Galleries and Current Exhibitions
Bishop Museum's Signature Galleries include historic Hawaiian Hall, Pacific Hall, the Picture Gallery, the Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kāhili Room, the Nā Ulu Kaiwi'ula Native Hawaiian Garden, the Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center, and the Museum's Campus Murals. The Signature Galleries are open during regular business hours, and the Museum only closes on Thanksgiving and on Christmas Day.
The Museum's current exhibitions include Ka ʻUla Wena: Oceanic Red in the Castle Memorial Building and Kū a Lanakila! Expressions of Sovereignty in Early Territorial Hawaiʻi, 1900-1920 in the J. M. Long Gallery (first floor, Hawaiian Hall Complex).
Faith and Philanthropy: Queen Emma Kaleleonālani's Visit to England, 1865-1866 is featured in the third floor Treasure Case of Hawaiian Hall, and the Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center includes two exhibits: Lalo: Science and Conservation in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and Lele o Nā Manu: The Splendor and Loss of Hawaiʻi's Birds.
