Bishop Museum Launches Online Experiences for Japanese Speakers
Program series to feature 24 scheduled experiences showcasing the history, culture, and environment of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.
*Honolulu, Hawaiʻi* – Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, with support from Hawaiʻi Tourism Japan, has launched a series of online experiences for Japanese speakers in Hawaiʻi and worldwide.
"Bishop Museum's Japanese Online Experiences" consists of 24 scheduled online experiences between January and December 2021 that showcase the history, culture, and environment of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific through the lens of the Museum's signature galleries, original exhibitions, and livestreamed presentations.
Experiences are prerecorded in English with Japanese subtitles, or hosted live in Japanese with Bishop Museum's Asia Pacific educators.
As part of the program launch, Bishop Museum is offering the first two experiences free for all participants. Participants can view the January – June 2021 schedule of experiences and register for individual experiences online: www.BishopMuseum.org/Japanese-Online-Experiences. Starting in February, participants can register for individual experiences at $10 USD per experience. Registration for Bishop Museum Members is free.
Those who anticipate attending multiple experiences are encouraged to join Bishop Museum's Membership program. Annual memberships start at $70 USD at the Friend level for a single adult, and include free registration for additional livestreamed events and programs for 12 months, in addition to free general admission to the museum.
"We're pleased to launch Bishop Museum's Japanese Online Experiences as part of a larger initiative to expand Bishop Museum's online content to serve our growing membership, where our collections, programs, and resources may be accessible to learners all over the world," said Melanie Ide, Bishop Museum president and chief executive officer.
"It's also an opportunity to feature collaborations between the Museum and partnering curators, practitioners, artists, and experts. One such program involves livestreamed presentations from our J. Watumull Planetarium, where participants may study the night sky and explore Hawaiian star lines identified by the Polynesian Voyaging Society's Nainoa Thompson. It's an exciting way to bring people together to learn and also share their own experiences, and we're grateful for the support of Hawaiʻi Toursim Japan to see this program come to fruition," said Ide. "We hope the experiences will deepen Japanese speakersʻ understanding of the rich historical, cultural, and scientific work taking place at Bishop Museum, and encourage and enrich in-person visits to our islands and to the Museum."

Bishop Museum Admission, Parking & Hours
To control museum capacity and provide a safe environment for our guests, Bishop Museum offers 500 daily tickets. Tickets must be reserved in advance for one of the following two time periods:
- Morning, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Afternoon, 1-5 p.m.
If you currently hold a pre-purchased admission ticket that is still valid, those tickets will be honored on a space-available basis on the day of attendance.

Open every day from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day
Bishop Museum Café by Highway Inn offers a limited menu of bowls, sandwiches, and snacks from 10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. daily. Museum members receive a 10% discount with their membership card.
