# Bishop Museum Presents E Ulu A Pa'a, an Online Fundraiser and Auction

In lieu of its annual dinner, the online fundraiser gathers the community to support the mission of Bishop Museum

*Honolulu, Hawaiʻi* – Bishop Museum is proud to present E Ulu A Pa'a, a 10-day online fundraising auction in support of the museum's mission. The event, which will be held in lieu of the museum's annual fundraiser dinner, will celebrate the stories and people that have contributed to Bishop Museum's continued growth and will feature an astonishing selection of items for auction, from handcrafted pieces by Hawai'i artisans to exclusive Bishop Museum experiences and excursions. E Ulu A Pa'a will be held Aug. 19-29, 2021, online at BishopMuseum.cbo.io.

"For the past two decades, the Annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Dinner has brought together our community to celebrate and support the legacy of the Museum. This year, we invite everyone to join us again online, for E Ulu A Pa'a," said Melanie Ide, Bishop Museum president and CEO. "The museum has chronicled the stories of our island home through some of our most defining moments. Even as we live through unprecedented times now, the museum's role as a primary resource for Hawai'i and the Pacific continues, and we hope that this online event will create a virtual space to support the museum's ongoing growth."

Participants will be able to bid online or via text on more than 230 curated experiences, vacation packages, and one-of-a-kind pieces of art and hand-crafted materials from some of the islands' most talented designers, artists and cultural practitioners. Items and experiences range in value from $20-$5,000, and will help raise critical funds so Bishop Museum can continue to serve its local and global community.

The "Bishop Museum Exclusives and Experiences" present a range of one-of-a-kind opportunities from private workshops with local artists and Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners, special access to Bishop Museum curators and collections, private dinners at the museum after-hours, to intimate journeys in the J. Watumull Planetarium with Hokule'a Navigators.

"To celebrate our community connections and talented local artists, this year we've partnered with Oʻahu-based artist, Mark ʻDevourʻ Visaya," said Amber Jacroux Bixel, Bishop Museum director of sales and events, and E Ulu A Paʻa fundraiser lead. "Mark created original artwork titled 'Unity' specifically for this year's event. As Mark explains, 'The inspiration for this piece was to convey the feeling of dedication and strength that communities express through difficult times and how, by working together, we can overcome any obstacle.'" A physical piece of the "Unity" design is included as an auction item, and the design is also highlighted throughout the event's collateral as well as on its webpage.

Pamela Lipscomb wove this hat using the starting method that she learned from Aunty Betsy Astronomo at the 2002 ʻAha Pūhala o Puna conference in Hilo. "Arowana" Matted Print on Archival Paper, by Gary Draws Fish

Gary Draws Fish is an artist who is born and bred in Hawaiʻi. He has always had a fascination with the sea and the things that live in it. He shows us the fun and playful ways that he sees the ocean and its inhabitants.
