Bishop Museum Presents E Ulu A Pa‘a, an Online Fundraiser and Auction

In lieu of its annual dinner, the online fundraiser gathers the community to support the mission of Bishop Museum

*Honolulu, Hawaiʻi* – Bishop Museum is proud to present E Ulu A Paʻa, a weeklong online fundraiser and auction in support of the museum's mission. The event, which will be held in lieu of the museum's annual fundraiser dinner, will celebrate the stories and people that have contributed to Bishop Museum's continued growth and will feature an astonishing selection of items for auction, from handcrafted pieces by Hawaiʻi artisans to exclusive Bishop Museum experiences and excursions. E Ulu A Paʻa will be held Aug. 23-30, 2020, online at BishopMuseum.cbo.io.

"For the last 21 years, the Annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Dinner has brought together our community to celebrate and support the legacy of the Museum. While we hope to resume this long-held tradition in 2021, we instead invite everyone to join us this year online, for E Ulu A Paʻa," said Melanie Ide, President and CEO of Bishop Museum. "The museum has chronicled the stories of our island home through some of our most defining moments. Even as we live through unprecedented times now, the museum's role as a primary resource for Hawaiʻi and the Pacific continues, and we hope that this online event will create a virtual space to support the museum's ongoing growth."

Participants will be able to bid online or via text on more than 100 curated experiences, vacation packages, and one-of-a-kind pieces of art and hand-crafted materials from some of the islands' most talented designers, artists and cultural practitioners. Items and experiences range in value from $20-$20,000 all to raise critical funds so Bishop Museum can continue to serve our local and global community.

The "Bishop Museum Exclusives and Experiences" present a range of one-of-a-kind opportunities from private workshops with local artists and Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners, special access to Bishop Museum curators in the collection, private dinners at the museum after-hours, to intimate journeys in the J. Watumull Planetarium with Hokulea Navigators.

Below the Reef – A Behind the Scenes Tour with Dr. Richard L. Pyle

On this experience, attendees will learn about the legacy of Dr. John E. "Jack" Randall and how Bishop Museum came to have over 100,000 fish specimens.

Kaʻena Point Nature Hike with Bishop Museum Experts

Hikers will explore one of the last remaining protected coastal habitats in Hawaiʻi on this Kaʻena Point Nature Hike with Bishop Museum Botany and Vertebrate Zoology experts. Kaʻena Point is a treasure trove of native wildlife and strand vegetation, and for some species, their last refuge for survival.

Butterflies and Bees: Behind the Scenes with Entomology Expert Jim Boone

Attendees will join Entomology Curator and expert Jim Boone for a private tour behind the scenes to learn about the butterflies, bees, moths, beetles, and pollinators that are essential to our native plants and call Hawaiʻi home.

M by Chef Mavro – Private Tasting Menu & Gallery Tour

This experience will feature an evening of culture, art and culinary bliss at the museum! This exclusive M by Chef Mavro Private Tasting Menu & Gallery Tour will host the winner and up to three guests to a private tour of Hawaiian and Pacific Hall led by a Bishop Museum expert. Attendees will then dine in the Gulab & Indru Watumull Atrium after-hours for a tasting menu by Chef Jeremy Shigekane of M by Chef Mavro.
