# Bishop Museum Presents Its Annual E Ulu A Paʻa Auction

Online Fundraiser supports the mission, staff, and work of Bishop Museum and features exclusive Museum experiences.

Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum is pleased to once again present E Ulu A Paʻa, a 13-day online auction supporting the mission, staff, and work of Bishop Museum, the designated Hawaiʻi State Museum of Natural and Cultural History. The event will feature exclusive Museum experiences from private tours of the Museum's vast Cultural and Natural Science collections, to a pizza party and lava pour demonstration in the Museum's volcano, and a customized planetarium experience!

E Ulu A Paʻa will be held from 8 a.m. HST Wednesday, Aug. 23 to 9 p.m. HST Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, online at BishopMuseum.cbo.io.

Private Tours of Bishop Museum's Cultural and Natural Science Collections

It's said that a visitor may only experience a small percentage of the more than 25 million cultural objects, printed material, and natural science specimens in Bishop Museum's vast collections. Numerous behind-the-scenes opportunities to explore beyond the Museum's exhibits and galleries are up for bid, with access to not only the collections but also to the Museum staff who care for them.

Private Keiki Party: Playing With Light

In Bishop Museum's newest exhibit, guests will be able to "step out of the darkness and try to sneak past a laser light security block, step inside a giant kaleidoscope, 'draw' with infrared 'paint,' or make their own powerful telescope!" Playing With Light lets explorers of all ages investigate light's role in science, technology, and our daily lives, shining a light on our big bright world.

Private Lava Pour Pizza Party

Guests will enjoy a private evening at the Museum with their own Lava Pour Pizza Party. Up to 19 guests will meet at the Hot Spot to learn about the formation of the Hawaiian Islands and Hawai'i's volcanoes in the Museum's signature volcano show, and see real lava poured out of a 2,000-degree furnace! Each guest will receive a keepsake lava glass shard; gallery time in the Science Adventure Center and a pizza dinner are included.

Customize Your Own Planetarium Experience

Explore the Hawaiian Night Sky via exclusive J. Watumull Planetarium experiences. Guests will be able to customize an interactive presentation with Planetarium educators and also enjoy stargazing, weather permitting.

The Art of the Hawaiian Warrior: Pahi Kaua (War Knife) Workshop with G. 'Umi Kai

Learn to make a pahi kaua the ʻUmi Kai way, with focus on traditional design and function complete with ʻaha (coconut sennit) cordage on the handle of the blade. The long dagger is made from the bill (nuku) of a broadbill swordfish (aʻu kū). At the end of the workshop, guests will leave with a completed pahi kaua.

ʻOhe Kāpala Earrings Carving Workshop with Na Maka Kahiko

Learn the art of carving ʻohe kāpala (Hawaiian kapa stamp) earrings with Nalu Andrade, master carver and owner of Na Maka Kahiko. Up to 10 guests will meet at Bishop Museum for a 90-minute workshop and learn how to create hand-carved, wearable art that they can take home.
