Bishop Museum Hosts Celebrate Micronesia Festival
Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, in partnership with the Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP) and the East-West Center, hosts the 2023 Celebrate Micronesia Festival on Saturday, May 20. from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. throughout the Museum's campus.
The Festival showcases traditional and contemporary art, dance, poetry, fashion, stories, music, and food of the people and cultures of the Republic of Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guåhan (Guam), Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Kiribati, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
"As the State Museum of natural and cultural history of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, Bishop Museum is pleased to once again host the Celebrate Micronesia Festival for the fifth year," said Brandon Bunag, Bishop Museum vice president of public programs and interim director of education. "This year's Festival theme of 'Resilience' is especially notable during Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Island Heritage Month, and we appreciate the opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Micronesia."
"The Festival is an important event that highlights and celebrates the wisdom, beauty, and strength of the peoples and cultures of the region of Micronesia," said Dr. Mary Hattori, Pacific Islands Development Program director. "By facilitating this opportunity for Micronesians to share their cultures with the public, we hope to increase awareness and appreciation for the resilience and diversity of cultures and languages expressed through the arts, fashion, food, and stories of Micronesia."
Highlights of this year's Festival include a contemporary Palauan fashion show and canoes representative of the Micronesian and Hawaiian histories of celestial navigation, as well as virtual presentations and online discussions to complement the in-person programming. Admission is discounted to $5.00 per person for kamaʻāina and military with ID, and includes access to the Festival as well as the Museum's exhibitions and galleries.

Bishop Museum Admission, Parking, and Hours
Timed General Admissions can be booked for arrivals between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., or for arrivals between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Once a timed admission is booked, guests may arrive at any time during their check-in window. All admissions, once checked in, are welcome to stay until 5 p.m.

Bishop Museum is a participant in the Museums for All program, which provides free regular admission for up to four people with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Guests will also receive free parking for one vehicle, and are asked to bypass parking payment and check in at the Museum's ticket counter in Shop Pacifica.

J. Watumull Planetarium tickets can be purchased at the Box Office after admission to the Museum; shows are free for Bishop Museum Members, but tickets must be obtained at the Box Office in person on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bishop Museum Café by Highway Inn offers a limited menu of bowls, sandwiches, and snacks from 10 a.m.– 3:30 p.m. daily. Bishop Museum Members receive a 10% discount with their membership card.
