# Executive Dee Jay Mailer to Serve as Interim President and CEO of Bishop Museum
Former Kamehameha Schools CEO Will Provide Experienced and Compassionate Leadership
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi — Seasoned executive Dee Jay Mailer has been appointed to a one-year term as Interim President and CEO of Bishop Museum. Mailer's first day on campus will be Feb. 2, 2023.
Mailer served as CEO of Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate from 2004-2014, overseeing the educational trust's transition to a CEO-based management system. She served on the Board of Bishop Museum from 2012-2016, and currently sits on the Boards of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation and Sutter Health Kahi Mohala.
Mailer has also served as chief operating officer of the Geneva, Switzerland-based Global Fund to Fight AIDS Tuberculosis and Malaria, where she helped raise $4 billion from 35 countries, major foundations, and private donors. She has also served as chief operations officer at health insurer Health Net in California and as president of Kaiser Permanente in Honolulu.
Mailer graduated from Kamehameha Schools and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Nursing and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Hawaiʻi.
"Dee Jay brings deep experience in all aspects of leadership at a time of transition for our organization and we are looking forward to having her sure hand at the helm of Bishop Museum," said Wayne Pitluck, chairman of the Museum Board.
In addition to broad oversight of the Museum's operations and strategic direction, Mailer has been asked to focus on strengthening the Museum's HR processes and will also assist with the search for a permanent CEO.
"I am excited to be joining the Bishop Museum ʻohana and to work with its very capable staff to strengthen the foundation for excellence that has existed there for many decades," said Mailer. "I am very much looking forward to meeting with the employees, donors, lawmakers, and community members who have demonstrated so much aloha and support for the cultural treasure provided to us by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his wife, Ke Aliʻi Pauahi."
